Wedding Dress

No, that is definitely NOT my dress!

Today was a huge day: last night I took my measurements one last time, and this morning I ordered my wedding dress!  Yep, I had to get it online, because living in a small town means that unless I want my dress to come from Walmart, I didn’t have very many options.  I hope it fits, but even if it doesn’t, I will have time to exchange it for another size or, heaven forbid, find something else (I really hope I don’t have to do that, though!)  I should have the dress next week sometime.  I can’t wait!

I still regret that I got my act together too late to be at goal weight for the wedding, but at least I finally did get started.  I will likely be in the low 160’s by the wedding next month, and then I will have just over 20 pounds to still lose to reach my goal.  I can live with that.  I’ve worked hard to lose this weight, and I’m not going to discount any of my effort or sweat or work.

I like to do things backwards: I bought my jewelry and shoes months ago.  I actually bought both before I had chosen a dress, but I think they will all work together perfectly.  I don’t want anything fussy or anything that needs to be boxed up and tucked in a closet afterward, so the shoes and jewelry are items I can wear again after the wedding.  I just wanted the wedding to be the very first time I wore them.

Of course I’ve been working on wedding plans long before this, but for some reason, ordering the dress made it like “Ahhhh, this shit just got real!”  It’s coming up quickly.  I have five more weeks to lose whatever I’m going to lose before the wedding!

Viking Challenge: DONE!

This past weekend, I weighed in for a 2.2 pound loss, AND I finally finished the Viking Challenge! Whew!  Sixty-five point three miles DONE!  I am so excited about that.  I started the challenge back in October, slacked off, and had pretty much given up on ever finishing it.  I am glad I decided to not give up and to take another shot at it.

I got an email today that my Viking Challenge reward t-shirt shipped.  I can’t wait to get it!

Ever since starting over (again), I have now lost just over 10 pounds.  I have a lot more to go, but I’m excited to hit the 10-pound mark.  My fiance also had another loss this past week, and he was really happy about it.  He was wearing a shirt that didn’t use to fit, and he was bragging about it to the kids, which was cute.

We had debated not giving the kids many details about our upcoming wedding, knowing everything will be repeated to Psycho, who will use every morsel as ammunition to try her damnedest to wreck our day in some way.  In the end, we decided to share our excitement with them and talk with them about some of our plans.  If Psycho is so jealous and shallow that she feels the need to be a petty, slithering snake, then so be it.  Our lives will never revolve around her the way hers revolves around ours.

I may need to weigh in a day early this week, depending on our plans for this weekend.  That means I need to stick to my meal plan like glue and up intensity of my workouts this week.  I want to lose another two pounds this week!

Workout DVD Review: The Wedding Workout

I know everyone has been biting their nails, holding their breath, and practically bursting with anticipation, eagerly waiting for my review of The Wedding Workout! Okay, maybe not, but I’m going to give it to you anyway.

The cool part about this DVD is that it’s broken down into sections, so you can use the pre-programmed options, like upper body or lower body, or select your own sections.  I opted to mix and scratch my own creation, so I went with the warm-up, upper body, lower body, and the cool down, for a roughly 30 minute workout.

All the sections at once make a 50-minute workout.  I haven’t done the abs or cardio section yet.  Each workout section is about 10 or 11 minutes long, and the warm up and cool down are about 4 minutes long.

This is definitely a beginner workout, which is fine for me right now, just getting back to exercise after a long bout of chronic laziness, but for someone already lifting weights, the upper body section in particular won’t be terribly challenging.  I liked the lower body section, though.  My legs burned!  It’s nonstop squats and lunges, with a brief moment on the mat doing exercises like those leg raises on all fours.

The instructor’s voice sounds a lot like Ashley Judd.  Why do I mention this?  Just a random observation.  Do with it what you will!

All in all, for about $3 on eBay, this is a much better workout than I expected, and there were actually very few comments about weddings or any other idle chatter.  I will definitely be doing the legs section again. I have other workout DVD’s that leave my arms sore, so I will rely on those for the upper body work.

When I try the abs and cardio sections, I will let you know what I think of those!

Wedding Workout

With a wedding coming up this year, I decided to hunt the Internet for wedding-themed workout DVD’s.  I was surprised that there weren’t that many. I figured this was a huge market, with women always wanting to lose weight before a wedding, and that there would page after page of wedding workout results, all with giggle-worthy titles, but I only found a few DVD’s.

I found a used copy of one on eBay for next to nothing, so tonight’s workout will be:

I have no idea if it’s a good workout or just a lot of cheesy workout comments, but I liked the idea of just having this around to give me a prod to remember my goals and get moving.  I’ll give you a complete review tomorrow so you know if you have to storm the Internet and demand a copy of your own 🙂

Two Days Down!

Two days into the new year, and I have two workouts logged, yippee!  I’ve gone back to putting a small star sticker on the calendar for each day that I work out.  My goal is to have a sticker on each day of January.

I weighed in on Saturday and ended the year with a 1.4 pound loss.  I have a long, long way to go, but I want to be proud of and celebrate each mini-victory like this along the way.

It’s time to do this.  It’s time to focus on me.  I want to, and need to, reach my weight loss and fitness goals this year.  I’ve denied myself so much time that I could have already been at my goal.

My wedding is coming up this year.  It’s a cliche to want to lose weight before the wedding, but I do! Why spend money on a dress if I don’t look my best in it?  I know the wedding is not about what I look like, but I still want to look good, and I want to look at our pictures later and know I worked hard to be healthy and fit.  I want to know that my health and happiness and my future with my fiance and stepkids were all worth it to me to push again and work hard to reach my goals.
