Finally Fall!

The official first day of fall on the calendar has little significance down here in the south. That day is just as hot and humid as any other, and so is the day after that…and the day after that…and after that…

I worked in the yard on Saturday, and it was a sweaty, muggy day. Have I mentioned that I am waaaaay over hot and humid days? I was relieved to head inside for a cold drink and an even colder shower.

Sunday morning, however, was absolutely beautiful. My husband and I sat on the back deck, rocking gently on our glider, inhaling the scent of flowers by the deck and enjoying the cool air. I adore that first chilly day, the long-awaited dip in temperature, the sign that fall is, indeed, finally on the way.

The day went by so quickly. My older stepdaughter was home, and we spent some time with my older stepson, too. I had some errands I probably should have gotten done, but I shoved my to-do list aside and focused on them instead. My husband was revved up, teasing and picking on everyone, laughing at his own jokes (not that that is anything new, really!) It was just a fun, peaceful day.

It was wonderful, getting to break out a long-sleeve top for work this morning. Makes me want to go shopping, since 99% of my wardrobe is for days hovering in the 90s or higher (yuck!)

Happy (finally) official fall season in the south! It’s about damn time!

Brrrrrr

a05484e25315e7f532fa26d24d4d7ff9We somehow managed to wake up in the North Pole this morning.  I’m not going to complain too much, though (for once), since we are at least above freezing temperatures and can still safely go outside!  The forecast for the mid-west sounds surreal, like something out of that movie The Day After Tomorrow.

Above freezing or not, I still don’t relish the idea of suiting up and going running in the biting cold.  So, dear old gym, let’s make a date, shall we?  I will be seeing you sometime this fine evening.  Mind you, I’d much rather snuggle up under a warm, cozy blanket on the couch, next to a crackling fireplace, tucked up tight against my husband since he kicks off body heat like my own personal furnace, but that will just have to wait until after my workout.

All I Wanna Do…

Yesterday evening was nice and cool again, no rain, so I couldn’t resist double-knotting my running shoes and heading outside for a speedy run…okay, yeah right, more like a leisurely, turtle-like jog.

I wish I was more graceful and could dig my phone out of my arm band to take pictures without falling down, accidentally turning off Runkeeper, breaking my headphones, or dropping my phone and shattering it to a million pieces.  I went off the beaten path and tried out a trail instead, and it was gorgeous.  Much more treacherous, thanks to tree roots and rocks, but absolutely beautiful.  I definitely need to explore there again.

I covered six miles last night, mostly because I thought one street came out a good bit closer to my way home, but hey, it was more calories burned, right?  The only problem was (refer back to wishing I was more graceful) I tripped on a tree root and went airborne for a heart-pounding moment.  I didn’t fall on my face, but I landed awkwardly on my left leg, and it’s still sore today.  I will give it a break this evening by doing upper-body weight training.

All I’ve wanted to do this week is snack and munch and graze and chow down like there’s no tomorrow.  It’s only Tuesday, and I’ve used a week’s worth of will power just not eating everything in sight!   I refuse to go over my Weight Watchers points, though.  I am determined to have a good weigh-in this Saturday!

Probably how my husband feels already!
