T.K.O. Challenge

TKO ChallengeA big thank you to Journey to a Healthy Me for rekindling the T.K.O. Challenge!  I had forgotten all about it until I saw her post.  I have decided to join her in this challenge, and I have added a page to my blog to track my progress.

In a nutshell, every five weeks is one round, and my goal is to lose 10 pounds in each round.  If I make it, great!  If I don’t, well, I start the next round with the ending weight from the previous round and get to start over.  So every round is a new start.

We get things moving with a 3-week kick-start, from now until September 8, during which my goal is to lose at least 5 pounds.  I like challenges and having something to keep me focused.

*Ding-ding!*  (That is the ringside bell ringing, for those with no imagination.)  Let’s get ready to rumble!

Grumpy

My mood today!

I am not feeling terribly bright, sparkly, or sunshine-y.  I am going on day #11 of being sick.  This cough and stuffy nose will not just move on and leave me alone!  I feel tired all the time and gave up trying to stumble through workouts. Unfortunately, I also gave up on any semblance of watching what I eat.  Feed a cold?  Check!  I am overachieving on that front.

It shows.  I have gained the past two weeks, a total of 3.2 pounds, but it would have been a heck of a lot more than that if I hadn’t weighed in this past Saturday after two hours of sweaty yard work.

This past Saturday was the deadline for Round 1 of my TKO Challenge, and I was nowhere near my goal of 200 pounds.  I weighed in at 207.8.  Yay.  Well, that’s why I designed the challenge to restart every 5 weeks, to give myself a new beginning, a clean slate.  Round 2 starts at 207.8, with a goal of 197.8 by October 15.

“Grumpy” doesn’t even begin to cover my mood.  I am tired, disappointed, frustrated, and feel like I am light years away from ever reaching my goal.

Another Loss!

I weighed in yesterday to a 2.4 pound loss!  I’m so happy to see losses on the scale again.  To be honest, I expected more, with cutting back on soda and working out each day.  But I’m still thrilled to be moving in the right direction.

Yesterday was the first deadline for my TKO Challenge, and I hit the goal dead on the nose: 5 pounds in 3 weeks for the Kickstarter round.  So I am officially starting the first 5-week round now, with a deadline of September 3, to lose 10 more pounds.

My workout for today is done (upper body strength training), and I’m sure I will barely be able to move my arms tomorrow.  After that, my fiance and I went to the grocery store together, and as we were piling everything up at the register, he laughed and said, “Wait a minute!  All this stuff is healthy.”  It was true: we had bought all kinds of fruit, and I stocked up on unsweet tea to take to my office.  Quite a difference from what we used to buy.

Yesterday I spent nearly 2 hours cleaning the house, after my cardio workout.  I didn’t intend for it be such a huge project, but as I vacuumed, I thought, “Hey, why not rotate the living room rug?”, which involved moving furtniture, which turned into sweeping where the furniture usually sits, cleaning where the rug usually is, vacuuming all the furniture (why not give these vacuum cleaner attachments a workout?) and all sorts of other brilliant ideas.  Oh well, I’m sure it was a great calorie burn, and now the house is insanely clean, so score!
