Spa Night

Work days feel like 8 million hours this week! I really am trying to be productive, but all I want to do is dream about the weekend.

When I got home from work yesterday, I decided to have a mini spa night to unwind and relax. Nothing fancy, just some me time with a few special touches. I put on a face mask and let that sit while I brushed my hair, then took a shower with lavender shower fizzies. I had bought a hair deep conditioner while my husband and I were at the beach last weekend, so I tried that out and loved it.

I thought my hair deserved a treat after salt water, sand, and tangles from jumping waves. With a beachy name like Take Me to Tahiti One Minute Moisture Hair Mask, how could I resist?

I keep intending to post more product reviews on my blog, so I will start with this one. This conditioner smells wonderful, floral mixed with island, gardenia and coconut oil. I let the conditioner sit on my hair for far more than one minute, while I used a body scrub. After I rinsed, my hair combed out easily, which says a lot. My hair loves to tangle, so it was nice to slide my comb through so smoothly.

When my hair dried, it was so soft and seems bouncier too. This conditioner contains shea butter, a favorite ingredient of mine in pretty much anything, because it works.

This conditioner received high reviews on every site I saw, from Amazon to Walmart to Sally Beauty. I’m sold and would definitely buy it again.

After my shower, I curled up under a blanket (since damp hair made me chilly) and snuggled up with my husband for a peaceful evening. It was a perfect ending to my mini spa night!

Spa Night Reviews

I didn’t want to leave everyone hanging after my Spa Night post about what specific products I used and what I thought of them. Weren’t you dying to know? Well, even if you weren’t, I am about to tell you.

Shampoo: This was an impulse purchase at Walgreens because (1) the price was too good to pass up, and (2) pretty much everyone needs shampoo, right? I used Thicker, Fuller Hair Cell-U-Plex Revitalizing Shampoo:

Apparently it was on sale because this particular formula has been discontinued. Obviously I knew that no shampoo is going to transform my hair from fine to thick, but this shampoo removes build-up from the hair, so then my hair actually does feel lighter and fluffier. I like this shampoo and would be willing to try the new formula when this bottle is empty. It smells good, too, which is a make-or-break feature of any shampoo for me.

Conditioner: This little gem was another impulse buy while strolling through Dollar Tree. Hey, it’s only a dollar! I have long hair and am always down to try a new conditioner, so when I saw Freeman Basics Smoothing Jojoba Oil Hair Mask, I decided to give it a try.

I really like this stuff! The conditioner packet didn’t mention that it has a cooling effect, like it has peppermint or menthol in it. Reviewers either love or hate this feature. I personally really like it. It’s not overwhelming or anything, not like dumping Icy Hot on your head. Just a subtle, tingly cooling sensation on the scalp.

My hair combed out easily after my shower and felt soft and smooth after it dried. What more could I ask for? I ran back to Dollar Tree and grabbed a few more packets of this conditioner.

Face Mask: I already had the face mask that I used, so I don’t remember exactly where I bought it. Probably Ulta or Walmart. I have oily skin and like to use a clay mask every now and then, so I used Freeman Anti-Stress Dead Sea Minerals Clay Mask. My skin feels smoother, cleaner after using this mask. As for oiliness, it’s a hot, muggy, humid summer, so it’s hard to say if the mask helps with that when I am sweaty as soon as I step out the front door! But I like it to head off a breakout or to just have smoother-feeling skin.

Who knows? Maybe you will like one of these products enough to have a Spa Night too 🙂 Enjoy!

Spa Night

I finished a major project at work yesterday morning, so as a reward before diving into the next one, I took a short shopping break. I was definitely in a “I need break” mood, because I ended up picking up a deep conditioning hair mask, a face mask, and a new shampoo to try. (Can you tell I have very long hair?)

I walked with a co-worker during my lunch later that afternoon. Our building is huge, and the hallways are like long, wide roads, so we meet up to walk in the air-conditioning and even have some stairs to pump up our workout.

Later, I was glad we had walked, because I discovered a discrepancy in a report and had to tear files apart to fix it. It took a while, but I found it and fixed it, then closed everything down and finally headed home much later than usual.

Thankfully, my husband had already started dinner, and I walked through the front door to some darn good, tempting smells coming from the kitchen. He loves to cook, so who am I to stand in his way, right?

After dinner, I should have worked out. But every cell in my body loudly protested and stood their ground with resolved conviction. I figured, well, I walked earlier today, so why not have a spa evening?

I spread on a face mask, then fired up a hot, steamy shower, and cracked open the new shampoo, the deep conditioner, body scrub, you name it. I even lit a scented candle. I guess my husband was either curious what on earth I was doing, or drawn to the flickering, candle-lit bathroom, because soon I heard, “Do you have room for one more?”

Come back, it’s not about to get explicit in here, ha ha. It was just nice to melt away the day’s tension, unwind, feel his arms around me, laugh, and make plans for our next date night under the soothing steam. I am so happy I have him to come home to.

I still have a ton to do at work, but I am going to do my best to not work late tomorrow (date night). Oh, and for the record, the deep conditioner is great, and my hair is very soft and fluffy today 🙂 Maybe I will write a review about it!
