Sizzling Fajitas

I was swamped at work yesterday, and I left much later than I had expected. Traffic was, of course, slower than my liking, and it took forever to get home. I was only home a few minutes when my cat started sneezing, and I called the vet, turned around, went right back out the door, and went to the pharmacy to pick up the antihistamines the vet said I could give to him.

When I got home the second time, it was oh-so-tempting to toss my work clothes into the hamper, put on comfy pajamas, and snuggle up with my husband. But I had promised myself I would work out when I got home, so I grit my teeth, wiggled into workout clothes, and hopped onto my exercise bike.

One of my favorite Peloton instructors is Cody Rigsby, because he is just so silly and goofy and funny. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth next, or what dance move he’s going to throw down, defying gravity by not falling right off his bike.

So I chose one of his classes, and I am glad I did. I randomly picked one that seemed like it had good music. It was a good workout, and Cody said something that made me laugh but also stayed in my head. When we were getting ready to increase the intensity of the ride, he described how, at a restaurant, when the server walks by with that sizzling plate of fajitas, everyone turns and looks and wonders who is getting those flashy fajitas. The fajitas capture everyone’s attention. He encouraged us to be the sizzling fajitas, not the complimentary tortilla chips, ha ha.

There you have it: immortal words of boundless inspiration and infinite wisdom, straight from Cody! Be the sizzling fajitas today, ladies and gentlemen. I am glad I chose to be sizzling fajitas last night instead of tortilla chips! Time to sizzle again today. What about you? 🙂

Rest Day

Where have I been?  Nowhere special, just didn’t feel like I had much to say this week.  And I have been crazy busy at work and at home, so even when I thought about writing here, the day quickly slipped away from me.

I woke up bright and early today to a chilly, dark morning.  I was comfy and warm under the covers, with my cat snuggled up on one side of me and my husband’s arm tossed across me from the other.  Let me tell you, just staying in bed was deliciously tempting!  But I had signed up for a live Peloton treadmill run this morning, so I reluctantly emerged from the nice, warm bed and braved the chill for a run.

Morning-Workout-Motivational-Quotes

Last night I took the first rest day I can remember in quite a while.  I am always afraid if I slow down, I won’t start again.  But I felt so tired, drained, and worn out when I got home from work last night, and the last thing I wanted to do was work out.  I gave in, got comfy, snuggled up under a blanket on the sofa, and hung out with my husband and my stepson instead.

The rest did me good.  Besides my run this morning, I also got a lot accomplished at work today, items crossed off my to-do list, actually making a dent in my inbox.  So this is what it feels like to be alert, awake, and non-zombie-like!

Two more days until my weigh-in.  This week has been so-so.  I have been logging my food (mostly) and I have worked out, except for my rest day.  I just feel like I am snacking too much, but I notice that is more on days I feel very sluggish and tired.

I am hoping for at least 2 more pounds gone, but as long as it’s a loss and I am still moving in the right direction, then I am still making progress to my goal!

March Goals

Hello MarchWell, February, I feel like we barely got to know each other before you were gone.  That’s okay, though.  March is here to step in and take over!

I am ramped up, fired up, and lit up for a spectacular March.  I will weigh in tomorrow morning, and then I have four more weigh-ins in March to make some serious progress.

I have a lot to do over the next 31 days.

My March Goals:

  1. Get down to 149 pounds or lower.
  2. Hit 100 running miles.
  3. Consistently log my food and drink, at least Monday through Friday.

That ought to keep me busy!  I make this serious promise to myself right here, right now: no weight gains this month.  No spinning my wheels.  No backtracking.  Nothing but moving forward and closer to my goal.

I got the new month off to a good start with an early morning run at the gym.  Today I tried the 30 minute 90s music fun run, and I have to say, I am officially hooked on the Peloton app.  I had planned to just test drive it for 3 months and then cancel, but now I have to seriously consider keeping it.  It’s only $20 a month, but that’s on top of my gym membership, workout DVDs, running gear…then again, isn’t it a good investment in my health, happiness, and general bad-assery?

Last night, pondering what to wear to work today, I spotted the corner of a black sweater peeking out from the bottom of the pile.  I wasn’t even sure which sweater it was, so I tugged it out.  Oh, yeah, that one!  Lordy, I haven’t seen that one in ages.  I had deliberately stuck it on the bottom when it got too tight to even think about wearing.  I tried it on, and it fit just fine.  I wore it to work today and feel wonderful.  No one else knows it hasn’t fit in at least a year, but I do!

I’m looking forward to the weekend.  It’s supposed to rain quite a bit, but hopefully the clouds will give me a break and let me fit in a long run.

Oh, almost forgot!  This weekend, my husband and I are going to hit Home Depot so we can pick up what he needs to make me a running medal and bib display.  I found one I really like online, and he told me he can make it for me.  I can’t wait!  Just in time, too: I have already registered for another half marathon 🙂

Now just try to get that damn song out of your head!

Beast Mode March

How is it possibly the last day of February already?  That means it is officially the last day of our 30-day exercise challenge.  How did everyone do?  And don’t forget…we have one more day to add just a few more minutes!

I didn’t take into account how long some of my runs are, so I ended up easily reaching and passing my goal of 1100 minutes.  If I start up any more fitness challenges, I will focus on miles, not minutes.

Last night, to make up for not hitting the treadmill in the morning, I doubled up and tried two more Peloton treadmill workouts: a 30 minute hills run and a 30 minute 80s music fun run.  Both of them were great.  The Peloton workouts push me to run faster and on higher inclines than I ever do on my own.  I’ll never be in love with treadmill running, but the Peloton workouts help the time go by faster and give me a better workout.

I’ve joined a few challenges on LoseIt that begin tomorrow, and I’m excited to see how much I can accomplish in March.  I stumbled around a bit in February and held myself back, but only temporarily.  I’ve lost the weight I had gained back, and a little more…and now I am ready for BEAST MODE!

My Valentine

Hearts-love-romance-image-hq-wallpapers-9502.jpgI had planned a business-as-usual evening last night, but apparently my husband had much different ideas.  He started by texting me at work to ask if I wanted to do anything special for Valentine’s Day.  To be honest, I think Valentine’s Day is a silly holiday, so I hadn’t thought much about it.  I texted him back that everywhere was going to be crazy crowded, so I was fine just staying home.

Not long after that, he texted me again, same question.  I again said I hadn’t planned anything.  Call me dense, but I definitely wasn’t taking the hint.

When he texted me a third time, he said, “I just want to make sure you’re happy.”

I melted.  How do I say no to that?  So I changed my mind and said yes, actually, I would love to go out for Valentine’s Day.

He was very tired when he got home, but excited to head out to dinner with me.  We actually found a place that wasn’t wrapped up, and I did pretty good, got a grilled chicken salad (but stole some of his fries).  We had fun, just talking, joking around, and being together.

No workout last night, but it was such a nice evening.  I got up early today and headed to the gym, and I tried another Peloton Digital treadmill workout.  I did the 30 Minute Hills Run with Becs Gentry.  I realized as soon as it started that it was a bit ambitious for an early morning workout!  I hung in there and finished the run though.

Tomorrow morning is weigh-in.  Hmmm.  I wasn’t counting on going out to dinner for Valentine’s Day, so I don’t know how that will impact my weigh-in.  Oh well.  It was worth it!
