Clean Up

I love this quote, because it suits me perfectly right now. I’ve been on a cleaning-out and organizing kick lately at home, and it’s been inspired by changes I have made for myself, for my life. Instead of dread for a mundane chore, I feel excited to work on these projects, to make improvements and upgrades all around, inside and out.

This week, I am focusing on cleaning out and organizing my shoes. I remember my mom having stacks and stacks of shoe boxes in their bedroom, and we took shoe shopping together quite seriously. Is there such a thing as too many shoes? Of course not, but I suppose there does come a point that the shoe collection needs to be corralled, pared down, and organized.

I ordered some shoe organizers, and at some point this week, I need to make time to really evaluate whether I wear every pair of shoes, sandals, and boots that I own, and part with the ones not worth finding storage space for. Then I’m going to get seriously organized, keep the ones I wear the most, like my running shoes, in an easy-to-grab rack in the closet.

Up next will be jewelry (bursting out of my jewelry box), purses (um, I like to call it a collection, not hoarding), and my make-up drawer (yes, I really do need 20 lipsticks and half a dozen mascaras). I’ve already cleaned out a lot of clothes but want to do one more sweep to yank out any stragglers I missed.

Step by step, it will all fall together to a much more organized, tidy, and streamlined home. I need to be more mindful of what I add to the closet from now on, too, and make sure it truly adds value to my life before I add it to the collection.

I never thought I’d be excited about cleaning, but here I am, living my wild and crazy life, ha ha. I have made so many positive changes this year that I just feel like a good clean-up and glow-up is only appropriate at home, as well.

My All

I am so excited!  My walk-in closet project is about 80% finished.  I can’t officially complete it until I reach goal weight and do the final clean-out of clothes from the dresser and closet, so I know exactly what I am working with and how I want everything organized, but it’s come a long way already.

It’s so nice to not have to dig for things, to just open a drawer or pull something from one of the baskets.  Everything is neat, organized, tidy, the way I like it!  And don’t worry, I took “before” pictures so I can post closet makeover pictures when I am finished.

This weekend, I asked my husband to help me hang some pretty jewelry organizers I bought to go with the other organizers in the closet.  He has a much better chance of hanging something straight, since I seem to be rather challenged in that department.  I will swear something is perfectly straight, then stand back and wonder what drunk person just hung that crooked mess.  When he whipped out a ruler and a level along with the drill, I knew he meant business, ha ha.  Suffice it to say the new jewelry organizers look great…and are perfectly straight!

I’m looking forward to getting 100% back on track this week and seeing how big a dent I can make in the scale before weigh-in on Saturday.  I have a new workout DVD to try out this week.  It got great reviews, so I can’t wait to check it out and review it for you guys.

The kids were home with us this past weekend, and my husband told me this morning that they are excited and proud of my weight loss and how well I am doing.  It made me smile and pumped me up for a great week.  Definitely time to get back at this 100% and show them (and myself) just what I can do when I give it my all.

12.5 to Go

Another 1.8 pounds down, leaving me with a total of 65 pounds lost, and 12.5 pounds to go to my goal weight.  Not too shabby!

I went ahead and ordered organizers for my walk-in closet project, and I was surprised how quickly some of the items arrived.  I got one organizer the day after I ordered it!  Some pretty baskets arrived yesterday, and I am waiting on just one more item, a small 3-drawer dresser.  I will do a final clean-out after I hit goal weight, but I have started getting rid of some clothes just to make room and make the organizing project easier.

I wouldn’t say those are a woman’s only two problems, but I feel like this sometimes!

A lot of the clothes I had to get rid of look brand new, but they are now 2 to 3 sizes too big, and I simply can’t wear them anymore.  As I was folding them and putting them into the bag, it occurred to me that I could see if Psycho would like any of it, since most of the clothes are in pristine shape and quite nice.  But I already know that any such kindness on my part will be twisted into some evil, nasty gesture by her jealous and petty brain, so whatever.  Off to Goodwill they went.

I would love to ditch 2.5 pounds this week and hit my next mini goal (and earn my next weight loss reward), but since my weight loss has slowed down, I don’t see that happening.  I should be able to hit my mini goal by the end of March, though.

Someone asked me recently if I am already at goal weight, and that made me smile all day.  Nope, not quite there yet, but very close!

Organizing

A co-worker recently told me, “You are getting so skinny!”  Well, I wouldn’t exactly call myself skinny, but I know what she means.  It’s pretty obvious now that I have lost a good bit of weight.  In fact, I am thinking that 20 more pounds to reach the weight goal I had set for myself may be too much.  I will evaluate how I look and feel after 10 pounds instead.

Over the weekend, I tried on my goal-weight jeans again.  I can button and zip them, but they are uncomfortably snug and definitely don’t officially fit again just yet, despite my husband’s insistence that they fit perfectly, ha ha.  Nope, not into the skin-tight pants look!

At first I was very disappointed at weigh-in Saturday morning.  I only dropped eight-tenths of a pound.  All that hard work for that?  Are you freakin’ serious?

Then I remembered that I lost over 4 pounds last week.  It seems to be the pattern, a big loss followed by a very small one, like my body’s attempt to even things out.  And when I griped about it, my husband was quick to point out, “It was a loss!”  He added, “You have lost a lot of weight.  It’s going to get slower now.”

I decided not to wait until I have hit goal weight to start cleaning out and organizing.  I will hold off on the closet, but I decided to choose one small area at a time and organize the hell out of it.  I started this weekend with my husband’s and my bathroom.  I emptied everything: we’re talking drawers, under the sink, medicine cabinet.  I cleaned every surface with disinfecting wipes, then went one by one, putting things back or tossing them.

Now we have a sparkling, orderly, very organized bathroom.   I will hit the laundry room and storage shelves next.  By the time I reach goal weight and start my dresser and closet, I will be an old pro!
