I love to discover new places for my husband and me to explore, even if it’s just a new restaurant in a nearby town, a museum we have never visited, or a town we’ve passed through but never stopped in. Sometimes these excursions are misses, and we have no interest in going back, but most of the time, we find somewhere we’d like to visit again.
It’s funny, though, because even though both of us are open to exploring, we also strongly would prefer to go home to our own house each night! We love our home and just like being there, together. We both avoid crowds and noise, too. Every now and then we’ll venture out for an overnight or weekend trip somewhere, but for the most part, we are happiest right at home.
That means I have notes scribbled down of little day trips and weekend trips, locations to see, that we haven’t explored yet. I like researching a place, picturing ourselves there, getting excited if I find something that will make my husband smile. When we thoroughly enjoy something, like our beach trip a few weeks ago, I know we will be going back, and it gives us happy memories (and some cute pictures!)
What I appreciate most is that even if we visit somewhere that doesn’t quite live up to our expectations, we still have fun. We laugh about what we thought it would be compared to what it actually is, and we joke about it. We love just being together, and I am so glad that I found him, and that I have him at my side to share these little trips, and my life, with.
